Winter Driving Tips

by Duncan Shaw

As Clevelanders, we like to think we have this ‘winter’ thing down to a science. But it’s never a bad idea to brush up on safe winter driving habits. Here are some tips we’ve come across to keep the stress out of winter driving.

  • Stay on top of all vehicle maintenance. Pulling a broken down car to the side of the road is enough of a problem in fair weather. Don’t put yourself at risk by putting off scheduled maintenance.

  • Make sure to sure to check your tire pressure. For every ten degrees, your…

Tech Talk: Suspension and Handling

Knowing terms that your technician uses can help you accurately describe what's happening with your vehicle. Below is a selection of common terms relating to how your vehicle handles:

Bottoming Out - Suspension moves to extreme end of travel and hits compression bumper. Felt as heavy thud when going over bumps or potholes. Indicates shock wear.

Brakes fade - Stopping action seems to decrease, causing longer braking distance, similar to braking from high speeds. Indicates hot or wet brakes. Allow to dry or cool.

Excessive play in steering - Steering wheel must be turned unusually far in order to turn the car…

Follow these tips, get prepared, and stay safe during those long hours behind the wheel this holiday season:

• Prepare your vehicle. Make sure it is maintained and in good shape. Check your tire pressure, oil, and coolant.

• Be prepared for winter driving. Carry a snow scraper and brush, a flashlight, blankets, booster cables, and a shovel, and make sure that you have flares or emergency triangles.

• Check on road conditions and weather in advance. You may also want to try the Federal Highway Administration's site for traffic information and links to other traffic sites. Check the weather forecast before…

Tech Talk: 30k Services

As Toyota vehicles have evolved to require less maintenance, tune-ups have gone the way of the dinosaurs. Today, maintenance services typically fall into 2 groups - minor (typically an oil change and/or tire rotation) and major. Major services fall at intervals of 30,000 miles, which is why we sometimes call them 'K Services' or '30K Services'.

A 30K service typically consists of the following, and runs between $130 and $140 (before any coupons that may be on our website), depending upon whether your vehicle requires conventional or synthetic oil:
  • Inspect and adjust all fluid levels
  • Replace cabin air filter…

Tech Talk: Top 10 Car Care Tips

One of the things that make Toyota vehicles so popular is their longevity. Here in the shop, we frequently see vehicles with 100,00 or 200,000 miles under their fan belts (sorry - couldn't resist). The secret? I'm glad you asked...
  1. Check and change the oil. No single step will help an engine last more than regular oil and filter changes will. Conversely, nothing will destroy an engine faster than neglecting oil-level checks or fresh-oil changes.
  2. Flush the cooling system and change coolant once a year. A 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water will keep the…

Corolla will launch of the 2016 Corolla Special Edition.  Sporty styling features inside and out complement steering wheel paddle shifters, rear…
