Toyota Rallies a Comeback in Detroit

You may know that Toyota has been a bit down on its luck recently. With tsunamis, floods, and earthquakes hitting the company's home country of Japan, the past two years have seen Toyota focused on overcoming these disasters. Now Toyota is ready to convey a new spirit. As Stephen Beatty, Managing Director of Toyota Canada explains, "When you look back over the last couple of years, there was a need for us to demonstrate that the company is on the move, that we haven't walked away from the core qualities of durability, reliability and fuel efficiency."1

Toyota has been working to gain its market share back in Canada and U.S. for some time now, but it hopes the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, which lasts most of January 2012, can help it create a whole new image, or even a comeback , for the company. Though its production was severely delayed due to all of the natural disasters, the company is now up-and-running and plans to have ten vehicles in its small car class this year. There are also plans to increase and diversify the company's luxury and sport brands, Lexus and Scion, with additional innovative models.  Beatty states, "From our standpoint, what we're able to do is offer everything from the most fuel-efficient, conventionally powered car, with the Scion IQ subcompact, to the latest member of the Prius family with its new technologies."2
