With all the news of new coupes, updated hybrid cars and fuel economy standards coming from this Japanese auto maker, we almost forgot to mention that the 2012 Toyota Tacoma has been officially unveiled, along with specifications and pricing.
Available for a test drive at Motorcars Toyota in Cleveland Heights, 2012's Tacoma pickup is as durable and useful as ever. The best in class safety, comfort and style from Toyota's truck will help drive home sales of this small work vehicle. In fact, Tacoma is one of the few small trucks still available to customers in North America.
Tacoma's price range of $17,685 to $28,645 includes a wide variety of optional upgrades, which also have an intense price tag range of $10 to thousands of dollars.
Let's start with the basics: The Tacoma Regular Cab 4x2 is powered by a 159-hp 2.7-liter I-4 engine matted to 5-speed manual transmission (that's the model going for $17,685). Heading up in trim, the top-of-the-line four-cylinder Access Cab 4x4 with automatic transmission comes in at $25,865, only $10 more than last year's version.
There are Tacoma models with a 4.0-liter 236-hp V6, starting at $23,570 for rear-wheel drive. A Tacoma PreRunner Access Cab starts at almost the same price, and a top tier Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 V6 caps it all with a $28,645 MSRP.
