Revised Toyota Yaris to Hit Showroom Floors, by End of Year

Toyota unveiled the next-generation Yaris in Japan, last winter. People were excited, immediately falling head-over-heels with the popular eco-friendly little commuter car. Then - static.

All news of the next-generation Toyota Yaris came to an abrupt halt this spring, due to the March 11 earthquake and tsunami and has remained a fading memory ever since.

Happily, as Toyota regains ground lost by the natural disaster, the new Yaris is now ebbing back to a more tangible deliverable. And, all of us at Motorcars Toyota are happy to hear the chatter, even if at a low hum, pick up again.

On the first of July, Don Esmond, Senior VP Automotive Operations, Toyota, confirmed the next-generation Yaris will hit dealership floors, such as Motorcars Toyota in Cleveland Heights, "by the end of the year."1 Toyota's ultimate plan for the Yaris is to bring the subcompact up to snuff within the segment's top-sellers... A very smart move, considering U.S. car buyers are steadfast shifting their loyalty from large and midsize sedans, crossovers and SUVs to more fuel-efficient and economical compact and subcompact cars.

At this time, Toyota has divulged few details surrounding the next-gen Yaris. Motorcars Toyota can, however, tell you it will likely be built on the same platform as the outgoing 2011 model and hold the same engine. Changes will primarily affect the shape and overall look of the body, the interior, and potentially some of the subcompact's features and technological capabilities.

Toyota is planning to introduce an hybrid-electric Yaris variant (or Vitz, as it's known abroad) into Japanese markets. No word yet on whether or not they plan to do the same here in the U.S. But, we're certainly keeping our fingers crossed.

Be sure to stay tuned to learn more about the forthcoming next-generation Toyota Yaris. If you're interested in learning more about the 2011 Toyota Yaris in the mean time, please contact Motorcars Toyota in Cleveland Heights. We're happy to share specs, compare models, and arrange test drives.
